First, we’re told to turn in our friends, neighbors and family members who might be carrying on a “casual conversation” or forwarding on an email that has to do with ObamaCare and all the “lies, damnable lies!” that the President and his underlings (especially Deputy Assistant Under-Minister of (Dis)Information Linda Douglass, formerly an intrepid and courageous ABC News correspondent) believe are being circulated out there by enemies of the state, uh, I mean…”citizens” of the nation.
We’re told that, in order to be “good” Americans and not Nazis (thanks, Nancy) we need to sit down, shut up, listen to what’s being spoken and go out there and “Organize for America.” Forget organizing for (or against) anything else. Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the good guys they lead need our help right away. Excuse me while I laugh very hard.
Instead, our government says it’s worried about all those evil housewives in Medina, Ohio or Bozeman, Montana or Salt Lake City, Utah (sorry about leaving out the Northeast, but it’s pretty much been melded into the Democratic hive mind by now) or anywhere else where people are wondering how in heck we’re going to pay for all this government largesse — currently on exhibit in the form of an economic “stimulus” package that 57% of us don’t believe is working, a carbon cap-and-trade (actually, a tax) program that doesn’t even hold a glimmer of hope as far as reducing by even a hundredth of a percent the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere and a hoped-for health care, uh, I mean…health insurance “reform” program that’s going to bankrupt us in the near future if we allow it to be enacted.
And because Democratic elected officials are more upset about what their citizens are saying about them than about what they themselves are doing to the country, we’re being requested to “flag” questionable emails (Who decides what’s “questionable” the next time? The neighborhood political officer?) and send them to the White House. What bizarro universe are we now living in that has convinced the average citizen to sit there and tolerate such an affront?
Of course, we now see Part Deux to the denouement that is creeping socialism in this country of ours. Mysteriously, many of us are now receiving what is in effect spam emails from Mr. Obama’s chief strategist, David Axelrod (the King of AstroTurfing), explaining how what the President is trying to do TO us is actually what’s best FOR us. Never mind that none of us, as far as I can tell, either asked for or gave permission for such emailing. The White House just seemed to decide it had the right to go ahead and do it anyway.
I sit here writing this, imaging the brobdingnagian howl of protest that would have erupted from the Left had Karl Rove sent out such emails on behalf of George W. Bush. My guess is the lynch mob — composed of the leftist nutroots who hold office in many a congressional district and are currently at home, catching an earful from the people — would be permanently camped on the South Lawn until the troops dragged Bush and Rove out and did for them like the people did for Mussolini after Italy finally surrendered in WWII.
Let’s face it: We’ve been scammed. Scammed by “hope and change.” Scammed by people who said one reasonable-sounding thing but have now set out to do a series of other very unreasonable things. Well, it’s my fervent hope that all the change we didn’t contemplate we’d be getting will finally end up consigned to the ash heap of history.
The power of the people, currently on display in a full-throated roar of anger and indignation at a government that is accruing ever more power over what we can and cannot do and what we must pay to it in the form of taxes for programs we neither voted for nor want, will have its day at the ballot box. It will have its day on August 22nd, at a nationwide series of recess rallies to take place on that date, and it will be fully on display in Virginia and New Jersey in November, when new governors (both at least NOT Democrats) will be voted into office by a very angry electorate.
