I have to confess right up front that I’m not a consistent watcher of the Glenn Beck show on Fox News Channel, but not because I have any sort of problem with what he says or does.  I’m a huge fan of the First Amendment and if he wants to take after leftist radicals — otherwise known as today’s Democratic Party — with a great big rhetorical stick that’s fine with me.

It’s more that at that time of day I’m usually busy composing several or more blog posts for this site and at others where I so happily ply my trade.  Plus, I’m a freelance writer and I’ve got to put a little food on the table or my wife (also a retired military member) starts looking at me like the slacker I’ve been trying to be since I was piped over the side a few years ago.

I’m just kidding about the slacker part, folks.  I try to work at least 2 hours a day, in keeping with my vow to give as little income tax to the IRS as I possibly can without resorting to standing on a street corner with a squeegee and a glaze-eyed look on my face.  You know…kind of like the typical Obama “Organizing for America” volunteer.

Anyway, I’m hearing that more than a few leftist organizations have a problem with Mr. Beck’s characterization of them as somehow being “un-American.”  Now, where have I heard that term lately?  The name of the woman who used it escapes me at the moment.  Also; what’s “The Color of Change?”  I thought the movie was “The Color of Purple” or something like that.

Now apparently, these purple people or whoever they are have some sort of beef with Beck, though I confess I don’t have a clue as to why they’d be mad at being called communists or something.  I thought they were proud of that kind of stuff.  I know that the ”C” word certainly makes me pine for the days when Ivan was an actual upfront bad guy as opposed to the stab-you-in-the-back bad guy he is these days.  Ahh…the nostalgia.

And this is where Sarah Palin comes in and once again shows who’s swinging the big stick, and against whose backside the stick is landing on with a solid THWACK!! over and over again.  Palin also showed one more time that she — even better than Barack Obama — knows what it means when I say that one side more than the other (her side, of course) in this fight over the direction our country is to head is more than willing to go to the mattresses.

Palin, upon hearing that the Fox cultural/political/social commentator was beginning to take incoming fire from two different directions (those purple people eater folks AND the “mainstream” Democratic Party), put out a call through her Facebook page to rally her troops to the defense of Mr. Beck, all the while simultaneously administering a severe case of  Jack Nicholson’s famous “Code Red” (from the movie “A Few Good Men”) to more than a few shabby-chic, Birkenstock-wearing, latte liberals who were in high dudgeon because of  Beck’s rough treatment of Mr. Obama over the President’s socialist proclivities.

Palin's better at it than you are, Jack

Palin's better at it than you are, Jack

It seems, just through the pulchritudinous power of the Palin aura, over 3 MILLION viewers tuned in to the commentator’s Wednesday program.  Normally averaging around 2.4 million watchers, Palin managed to send a cool 600,000 additional folks to the aid of Beck.

Right now, as overexposed as he is, I don’t think Barack Obama could command 3 million people to tune him in even if he covered himself in honey and stood on the roof of the White House with a big box full of killer bees and a tiny fly swatter.  How do you spell “Obama fatigue?”  Better yet, how do you spell “Palin for president?”

There’s a lesson in all this for weaker-kneed Republicans (they’re mostly male, these days) in the Congress and in the party, in general.  In the military, we call what Palin has achieved lately complete ”battlespace dominance.”  Through her message and her personality, the former governor of Alaska can now project power unencumbered by enemy opposition, as weak as it really is in the first place.

Truthfully, it’s become increasingly clear that Palin continues to demonstrate with each passing week how thoroughly she’s gained the initiative in the fight over Obamacare and how weak the Democrats – who always seem to run from a stand-up fight — are.  See?  That’s what being fearless about delivering a message, and then ramming that same message home with unyielding certitude, will get you every single time.
